History of Bombasting
To call someone bombastic is to say they are overinflated and with little substance.
This term originated in Elizabethan England when it was fashionable to bombast garments.
This was to fill parts of garments with extra padding to look more intimating/powerful.
Women wore filled sleeves, while men sported bombasted doublets to increase their girth and their codpieces to increase their manhood.
Bombasting is still present today as shoulder pads, padded bras, and panties.
