It Pairs it With Everything

The classic feeling that a little black dress exudes combined with its perennially chic color make it the perfect fashion piece to get creative with. The simple yet sophisticated characteristic of an LBD makes prints, colors, jewelry, and accessories stand out. This same attribute also makes it ideal for pairing it with trends. You won’t look like a fashion victim when you pair a super trendy item with something as traditional and understated as a little black dress. It is, simply put, the perfect fashion canvas. Even a more detailed and tailored LBD, like one with laces or ruffles, is still classic enough and straightforward enough not to be a distraction to other details of your ensemble, like your accessories for instance. Maximize the chic potential of your LBD and get creative when styling it. It is your opportunity to test the waters with a particular trend, or to take a major fashion risk.

Thinking You Can’t Wear Black?  Think Again – Click Here

Here’s a smart little video on how to coordinate a black dress.  Take note that the LBD the model is wearing is a clean, classic sleeveless style – the most versatile of all the LBD shapes.

  1. I’ve never understood the appeal of the LBD! I’m an artist who is fascinated with colour. I have a passionate dislike for dull, boring, aging black.
I’m also a ‘summer’ colouring on which black makes me look like death warmed up. As I am a pear shape with a hip size in Australian clothing of 18/20 & a bodice size of 14/16, dresses are almost impossible to wear (except maxi’s – Yay! bring them on!)
To my way of thinking a dress must enrich the figure & so many do not dress for their figure. simply wearing a black dress because its black defeats the purpose.
Back to my artist colour sense. There are so many glorious colours out there that my cry is ‘Why wear dull, boring black? How many are aware that within the colour spectrum black is actually an absorbtion of ALL colour so actually is a non-colour. dead, dull, boring, life-less. Personally i like to see a women dress in the colour that either brings out our her eyes, hair or skin.

    1. Hi Lynette,
      Great reply!
I too love color but I also appreciate that black has many great qualities (see my feature ‘Yes, You Can Wear Black’). I also believe that when you know the rules of style and color you are then able to successfully bend them to work for you.
I agree that when you are a different size top and bottom that buying a flattering and well fitting dress becomes a challenge. I understand this all to well being an Australian size 16 below my waist and a 12-14 above. I tend to buy a size larger and have it altered, have dresses made or buy a matching top and skirt and wear them together to look like I’m wearing a dress.
      Cheers,
      ANN
