There are three ways you can present yourself relative to others:
~ from the one-up position
~ The one-down position, or
~ a position of parity.
In general, people feel most comfortable with someone with whom they feel similar or equal to. So, if you wish to make a good impression, the safest approach is to humble yourself just a bit and find similarities with others. This may be in the way you dress, your age or gender, subtle and open gestures, similar body positioning, nodding and smiling when you agree with what’s being said and asking more about the other person and their opinions that yourself.
